jackaro is formerly a Minneapolis/St. Paul based trio that began performing as the duo Bird In The Hand in Berkeley, California in 1996.They once consisted of two vocalists with acoustic guitars (Jenna & Annie), percussionist Dan Capecchi and a bassist. For the 3 plus years, they attended college in the Twin Cities area, performing at local coffee houses and the like, as well as returning to the Berkeley, Ca. area to perform at venues including La Pena, from which the photo above was taken (the photographer is unnamed). During the duos last year in St. Paul, MN., they produced their third release, which is the above mentioned CD "no matter the sleeping hour.

After their completion of college, Annie and Jenna headed west once again. Dan got married and headed to New England, and I have no idea what happened to the bassist.

Performing
original compositions with roots in folk, country, blue, and rock & roll, they address social and personal issues, drawing an audience diverse in age and experience. They have a mailing list of over 600 Minnesota fans. Their first recording, released in May of 1997, has sold over nine hundred copies in both Minneosota and California. They have performed with groups such as The Bemouli Effect, Anne Weiss, and Rebecca Riots, Jerree Small, Brenda Weiler, Bobby Lamma, Tina (of Tina and the B-Side Movement), and Mason Jennings. Their first CD, "prop open the side door" was released in 1999. Copies of this CD are available directly from the trio.

The information above and below is not up to date, and this page is not official or necessarily approved by bird in the hand. I became aware of this group around the fall of 1998, when they came to the coffee house I book, and were looking for gigs. At that point, the cassette was out and I was totally excited about their music. Bird In The Hand's long awaited CD debut, "prop open the side door" was well worth the wait indeed.

As they continued with their college educations and summer vacations, I was happy to book them whenever possible. They are still going at it, and performing when their educations will allow. If you've made it this far and found this page, you may also find them on the coffee house calendar within this site. For my money, bird in the hand are as engaging and talented as so many acts that are out today. Keep an eye on this group, I think they will go places, and you may want to watch them rise.

It's been some time since I posted any information about Annie and Jenna. Annie and Jenna departed the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN more than a year. I will post any new information as I receive it.
