"Edie Carey may have started out wanting to be a doctor but she found her true calling in music. Her pop-folk songs are smart tales of love, life and longing."
- Chicago Sun Times

On her fourth studio album, 'Another Kind of Fire,' Edie Carey demonstrates why she is an in-demand performer. In the tradition of Dar Williams, her songs strike a universal chord, her voicing is soothing, yet
strong, and the arrangements never fail to have an emotional impact. Songs such as 'Bonfire,' 'My Heart' and 'Hollywood Ending' qualify Carey as the Shawn Colvin of her generation. - Bay Area Reporter

It's something of a well-kept secret that Phil Heywood is one of the premier acoustic guitarists working today. His list of achievements includes a stint with internationally renowned guitarist Leo Kottke, who, after hearing Heywood for the first time, promptly asked him to join his tour so the two could play duets.

Heywood is a former National Fingerpicking Champion (1986) and winner of the American Fingerstyle Guitar Competition (1987), events judged by some of the genre's top players and performers.

He has appeared on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion with guitar legend Chet Atkins, and shared the stage with a host of the best regional, national and international guitarists and songwriters, among them Norman Blake, John Renbourn, Greg Brown, Stephen Fearing, Tim Sparks, Peter Lang, Pat Donohue, Robin and Linda Williams, Dave Ray, and Spider John Koerner.

Friday, June 26 - 8pm

What started as a jam session in late fall 1995 in a now burnt-out St. Paul hole-in-the-wall bar has become an international curiosity. The Urban Hillbilly Quartet has grown into an award-winning Twin Cities-based ensemble that delivers an eclectic mix of musical styles, blending fiddle, electric guitar, accordion, bass and other toys. On stage, the Hillbillies perform mainly original material--most of which can be found on their seven albums.(see discography)

Their music has been influenced by: Midwest powerhouses The Jayhawks and Uncle Tupelo; UK’s Grand Drive; Canada’s Bruce Cockburn; and folk/jazz star David Grisman. UHQ has been compared to R.E.M., The Grateful Dead, and 16 Horsepower.
Tonight's UHQ show will comprise of both original members and newer musicial friends. What ever the make up, it's always worth a listen.
